# Guide – Parloquo

How to install Parloquo and use every feature, on your computer and on your phone.

## Install

### On a computer

Parloquo is an extension for Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc. It's coming to the Chrome Web Store and Edge Add-ons soon. Until then, you download it as a ZIP file and install it in the browser's developer mode; the app shows you every step. Leave the unzipped folder where it is afterwards. For now, updates are installed the same way; from the store they will arrive by themselves. Parloquo is also coming to Firefox Add-ons soon. https://parloquo.app/app/#extension

### Android

Open the Parloquo app in your browser and add it to your home screen from the browser menu. There you paste the copied text of an article. In Chrome, a bookmark also starts Parloquo right on the page you're reading. You set it up in the app under “Set up the bookmark for Chrome”. A dedicated Android app follows by the end of 2026.

### iPhone and iPad

Open the Parloquo app in Safari and add it with “Share → Add to Home Screen”. There you paste text you copied in Safari. An app for iPhone and iPad with a Safari extension follows by the end of 2026.

## First start

1. **Sign in.** With your email address and a password, or with a code you receive by email. Your vocabulary deck, language and level belong to your account: on another device, Parloquo skips the next steps.
2. **Choose a language.** You pick the language you want to learn. Parloquo takes your own language from the browser. You can change it in the settings.
3. **Find your level.** You read the same passage at higher and higher levels until it gets too hard. The test takes about a minute. You can skip it and take it later in the settings under “Placement test”.
4. **Choose a daily goal.** 5, 10 or 20 minutes of reading a day. Parloquo shows how many days in a row you have reached your goal.

## Translate and adapt an article

Open an article, a blog post, a Wikipedia page or a recipe. The Parloquo bar appears at the bottom right of the page. Click the Parloquo icon at the top of the bar or press Alt+Shift+S.

Parloquo translates the article paragraph by paragraph into the language you are learning and adapts it to your level. If the article is already in that language, Parloquo only adapts the level. Parloquo leaves out ads, navigation and comments.

Above the article you see which level Parloquo adapted the text to and which language the original is in. Clicking a paragraph shows the original below it. Clicking the Parloquo icon again shows the whole original page. At the end of the article Parloquo asks whether the level was right.

## Change language and level

Below the Parloquo icon the bar shows the language you are learning and your level, for example ES B1. Clicking it opens “Language & level”. When you change the language or level, Parloquo adapts the page again. For Spanish you also choose the variety: Spain, Latin America, Mexico or Argentina.

While you read, Parloquo counts how often you look up words, how your exercises go and what you answer at the end of an article. From this it suggests an easier or harder level. You decide whether to switch.

## Look up words

Click a paragraph and then a word. On a computer, double-clicking a word also opens the word card.

The word card shows the base form, pronunciation, translation and part of speech. For verbs you see the tense, person and conjugation table. Below that you see what the word means in exactly this sentence. “Explain sentence” explains the whole sentence in your language. For Spanish the dictionary also works offline.

If you are already advanced, turn on “Tap words directly” in the settings. The word card then opens with the first click on a word.

## Listen

The speaker in the bar reads the adapted text aloud and highlights the word being spoken. You set the speed from 0.5× to 2× and jump to the previous or next section. Parloquo uses the voices of your device. You choose the voice in the settings under “Read aloud”.

## Summary

The summary comes short, medium or long, in the language you are learning and at your level. Parloquo can read the summary aloud as well.

## Exercises

From the article Parloquo creates tasks at your level: multiple choice, gap fills and open questions. Parloquo checks open answers and shows a model answer. For Spanish you can choose a grammar focus, for example ser/estar or the subjunctive.

## Ask the text

Ask questions about the article. Parloquo answers questions about the content in the language you are learning and at your level, questions about grammar and words in your own language.

## Vocabulary deck

“Save word” on the word card saves the word together with the sentence you found it in. Words from your deck are underlined in adapted texts.

When you review, you choose how you are asked: “Word → meaning”, “Meaning → word”, “Fill the gap” or “Listening”. You rate each card with “Again”, “Hard”, “Good” or “Easy”. Words you know well come back less often, difficult ones more often.

In the “My words” you search words, add notes and mark words you already know. “Stats” shows what is due today and in the next seven days. You can export your deck for Anki or as a CSV file.

## The app on your phone

In the app, you paste the copied text of an article and tap “Read”. Then you tap the Parloquo symbol at the bottom.

This also works with text from an email or a PDF. In Chrome on Android, the Parloquo bookmark lets you read right on the page, without copying.

“Read later” keeps an article for later. Under “Recently read” you find your articles again.

## Websites

On search engines, social networks, YouTube, webmail and web apps the Parloquo bar stays hidden. On any other website you hide it with “More → Hide on this site”. In the settings under “Websites” you bring it back.

## Keyboard shortcuts

- Alt+Shift+S: Translate and adapt the page; press again to show the original
- Esc: Close the word card or a panel
- Space: In the vocabulary deck: show the answer
- 1–4: In the vocabulary deck: rate the card

On a Mac, press ⌥ instead of Alt.

## Trial, subscription and your data

The trial lasts 14 days and includes 25 AI credits, enough for about 12 articles. After that you need Light or Pro; you can subscribe to either at any time, even during the trial. Light has 500 AI credits a month, Pro 1,000. An article costs about 2 AI credits; chats, word cards and exercises far less. You find what is left and your subscription in the settings under “Account”.

Without a subscription, the offline dictionary for Spanish, reading aloud and the vocabulary deck keep working.

In the settings under “Account” you download all the data Parloquo stores for your account, or delete your account with all its data.
