# Learn Spanish with articles from the web

Parloquo translates articles from the web into Spanish and adapts them to your level (A1–C2). With an offline dictionary, conjugation and a choice between Spain and Latin America.

## The same paragraph at three levels

Original: Alpine glaciers are melting faster than ever, researchers warn. Since 2000 they have lost a third of their ice.

**A2:** Los glaciares de los Alpes se **derriten** muy rápido. Desde el año 2000 tienen un tercio menos de hielo. Los científicos están preocupados.

**B1:** Los glaciares de los Alpes se **derriten** más rápido que nunca, advierten los investigadores. Desde 2000 han perdido un tercio de su hielo.

**C1:** Los glaciares alpinos retroceden a un ritmo sin precedentes, advierten los investigadores: desde 2000 han **perdido** un tercio de su masa de hielo.

## Grammar at each level

Up to B1, Parloquo only uses the grammar that syllabi set for each level. Each level adds what is listed here. The terms are in the language you are learning.

- **A1:** presente de indicativo (ser, estar, tener, ir, hacer, poder, querer); ir a + infinitivo, tener que + infinitivo; hay, artículos, pronombres personales, posesivos; conectores: y, pero, también, porque
- **A2:** pretérito perfecto, pretérito indefinido, pretérito imperfecto (descripciones); estar + gerundio, imperativo afirmativo; pronombres de objeto (lo, la, le), comparativos (más/menos … que); conectores: cuando, primero, después, entonces, por eso
- **B1:** futuro simple, condicional simple, pluscuamperfecto; presente de subjuntivo (quiero que, es importante que, para que); pasiva refleja (se venden), estilo indirecto (dijo que …); conectores: aunque, sin embargo, además, por lo tanto, mientras
- **B2:** Normal newspaper style; only very long sentences and rare words adapted
- **C1:** Close to the original; only convoluted sentences split up
- **C2:** The original text; pages in other languages are translated

## What Parloquo takes care of in this language

- **Offline dictionary.** Base form, translation and conjugation come from a dictionary on your device (Wiktionary). Only the meaning in the sentence needs an internet connection.
- **Four varieties.** Spain (vosotros), Latin America (ustedes), Mexico or Argentina (voseo): Parloquo uses the vocabulary and forms of address of the variety you choose. In exercises you can pick a grammar focus such as ser/estar or the subjunctive.

## How it works

1. **Open an article.** Open an article in your browser, in any language. On your phone, copy the text and paste it into the Parloquo app.
2. **Click the Parloquo icon.** The Parloquo icon is at the bottom right of the page. Click it or press Alt+Shift+S, and Parloquo translates the article paragraph by paragraph and adapts it to your level, headings included. Ads, navigation and comments are left out. A second click shows the original again.
3. **Look up words.** Click a paragraph, then a word. The word card shows the base form, translation, tense, person, the conjugation table and the meaning in this sentence.
